Sponsored eBooks FAQs

Here are some frequently asked questions about Machine Design's sponsored eBooks:

Q: How do I receive and read your free eBooks?
A: Typically, our sponsored eBooks are published on our network as they are written, a chapter at a time. To read a chapter or the completed book, you must register for each book on our sponsored eBook Web site. After that, you'll receive an email with your username and password and email validation link. Just click on the URL in the email and the system will set a cookie that allows you to access the eBook. You'll be able to return to the site later on without needing to re-register. We offer our eBooks in Adobe Acrobat (.PDF) format.

Q: Are your free eBooks paid advertisements by the sponsors?
A: No. Our eBooks provide the same high-quality, technical content that you've come to expect from Machine Design.

Q: Who writes your eBooks?
A: Many of the same authors who write for Machine Design also write our eBooks. These authors have real-world experience with the products and technologies they write about.

Q: Why do you publish one chapter at a time?
A: We publish a chapter as soon as the writing, technical edit, and word edit have been completed so that you have immediate access to the information. Unlike traditional print publishing, you don't have to wait months to get the technical information you need today. Typically, we publish one chapter every month until an eBook is completed.

Q: How does the registration process work?
A: The first time you select a chapter to read or download, you'll be prompted to complete a registration form. Once you complete the form, you'll receive an email with your username and password and a link to the logon page. When you go to the logon page the system will set a cookie that will be stored on your browser. This cookie will remember your username and password so you don't have to enter it each time you want to access future chapters when they are published. If you have cookies disabled in your browser, you'll be forced to enter your username and password each time you attempt to access a book.

Q: Will you notify me when a new chapter of a book I'm reading becomes available?
A: Yes. We send registered readers of an eBook an email notice when a new chapter is available.
